Ron Ponder is a prominent civic leader, media producer, and former public servant in Canton, Ohio whose work has focused on civil rights, racial equity, and inclusive economic growth. Born in LaFayette, Georgia and raised in Akron, Ohio, he emerged as a leading voice in Stark County during the 1970s and 1980s. As president of the NAACP local chapter, he helped drive accountability and expanded opportunity in public service. He later served as deputy mayor under Sam Purses, advancing inclusive hiring practices and community-focused development.
Ponder has written opinion columns for The Repository, hosted Points to Ponder on Western Reserve Public Media, and chaired Coming Together Stark County. He is also executive producer of documentaries through PonderSystems Media and Marketing. His interests include jazz, blues, Motown, and classic films, and he remains deeply engaged in civic life across the region.
